Unity Project OverviewUnity Digital's team teamed up with the Visual Design students at North Wake College & Career Academy; a Project-Based Learning early college. Students were charged with rebranding the company's logo through developing personas and conducting research while learning Adobe Illustrator. Our partnership was formed through the WakeEd LINK program, and was instrumental in getting us connected.
Comparing this project to previous projects that had no industry partner really highlighted the reasons why business leadership in schools is essential. Unity, a B-Corp, is no stranger to community minded practice, and they provided the necessary real-life context that students need in order to develop problem solving skills. The foundation to Gold Standard PBL is including an industry partner that can provide mentorship to students outside of the scope of the classroom teacher. The industry expert gives students the necessary platform to present, negotiate, listen to feedback, implement change, and get exposure to career fields. Unity was a fantastic group of individuals because they represented the diversity our students need to see in professional roles. They also provided warm and cool feedback during the remote video presentations that was both kind and constructive to students who are novice in the design field. On behalf of myself, and my students, I thank Alisa, Lexi, Johnny, & Bud at Unity Digital for being fantastic partners this year!
